When the 15-year-old steel-aluminium format was sailing off the coast of Calabria, water is said to have entered via the stern. The crew and guests of the "Saga" are safe.
The accident occurred on Friday 19 August about nine nautical miles off the coast of Catanzaro Marina. The 39.40 metre-long "Saga" was launched in 2007 by Monaco Yachting & Technologies in La Spezia as the "Yuko" and was on its way from Gallipoli to Milazzo at the time of the accident.
The coastguard from Crotone and a Romanian patrol boat, which was on duty for Frontex, came to the rescue and to help disembark the guests. The next morning, a tugboat from Catanzaro Marina took "Saga" on the hook. The video shows how the rising wind increased the list during the journey and ultimately led to the yacht sinking.
