Last Saturday, the German Maritime Search and Rescue Service (DGzRS) and the Federal Police had to work together to rescue a motorboat that had been wrecked off Stralsund. The boat had collided with an underwater obstacle, causing the 300 hp outboard motor to break off. The boat immediately took on water.
The crew, consisting of two men, immediately alerted the Lake Rescue Coordination Centre to the collision. Initially, they managed to keep the water ingress under control using their own bilge pump. However, the demolished engine was still attached to the supply lines under the ship.
The federal police vessel "Prignitz" was the first on the scene and secured the distressed vessel. Shortly afterwards, the rescue boat "Hertha Jeep" from the Stralsund Volunteer Centre arrived at the scene of the accident and picked up the two crew members. Both were uninjured and in good health.
Together, the sea rescuers and the crew of the "Prignitz" were then able to secure the outboard motor. It was placed on the distressed vessel using the crane of the federal police vessel. This prevented any harmful substances from escaping.
The MV 13 of the Stralsund water police closed the harbour of Altefähr for safety reasons to enable the shipwrecked vessel to land safely. There it was brought ashore on a trailer.
