In 2019, Briton Alan Priddy and his team Britannia want to circumnavigate the globe in a motorboat in a new record time (boote 1.2017). The hull of the 24-metre-long glider has now been completed. The boat should be ready for take-off next March. It has to be, otherwise it will have to wait until autumn.
"We only have two 'weather windows' per year," says Alan Priddy, "at the end of March/beginning of April and then at the end of October/beginning of November."
The project is huge. After all, the aim is to break Peter Bethune's record, which has stood for ten years. With his "Earthrace", the New Zealander managed to circumnavigate the globe in 60 days, 23 hours and 49 minutes.
