The state government of Schleswig-Holstein launched the first of four planned information events on the Baltic Sea Protection Action Plan (APOS 2030) in Eckernförde yesterday. Under the motto "Baltic Sea Protection Schleswig-Holstein - Inform, Exchange, Shape", the government is inviting people to find out about current progress and participate in the protection concept. The series of events is taking place in the Baltic Sea districts of Schleswig-Flensburg, Rendsburg-Eckernförde, Plön and Ostholstein and is aimed equally at private individuals, associations and political and social stakeholders.
The APOS 2030 provides for a total of 16 measures to better protect the Baltic Sea. All sources of pollution are to be tackled, including nutrient inputs, overfishing, old munitions and pollution from black water and antifouling on recreational boats.
According to the ministry, the focus is on measures that Schleswig-Holstein can implement or initiate itself. An important goal is to protect 12.5 % of Schleswig-Holstein's Baltic Sea more strictly. The plan also integrates existing tasks of the state government, such as the recovery of ammunition remnants. This is why, in addition to the Ministry of the Environment, the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Sport, the Ministry of Economics, Transport and Tourism and the Ministry of Agriculture are also involved.
The events are divided into two parts: In the first part, representatives of the ministries involved will present the concrete implementation steps of APOS 2030. The second part offers local and regional initiatives and associations the opportunity to present options for voluntary involvement in the protection of Schleswig-Holstein's Baltic Sea. Interested citizens will have the chance to talk directly to the initiatives, associations and ministries involved.
Following yesterday's kick-off event in Eckernförde, three further information evenings will be held by the end of the coming weeks:
