Why one hull when you can have two? BOOTE 04/25 focusses on the catamaran special. We explain why multihulls are so popular. Plus: Model making of ships, practical tips on propeller antifouling and testing board shoes

"You're taking the sun away from us, can't you park your tower block somewhere else?" A German skipper recently greeted me with this sentence in the Croatian ACI marina Trogir while we were trying to manoeuvre our almost eight-metre-wide and six-metre-high Leopard 53 "Roman Catholic" neatly against the quay wall.

The catamaran special

Catamarans polarise opinion. For some, they are the epitome of a comfortable and above all spacious touring boat, for others they are simply big and ugly. The fact is that motorised catamarans offer an unbeatable amount of space and their hull shape makes them significantly more efficient than monohulls. However, these advantages come at the price of high harbour fees and a sometimes lengthy search for a berth. In this issue, we present the latest models from the well-known catamaran manufacturers from page 20 onwards, just in time for the catamaran show in La Grande Motte, France.

Other topics in the April issue of BOOTE

This issue also focuses on practical topics such as an overview of propeller antifouling, the installation of a bow thruster and our colleague Michael Rink's on-board shoe test. Did you know, for example, that ageing on-board shoes inherently lose grip, no matter how well maintained they are?

I hope you enjoy reading it.
