Catamaran special: Leopard 40 Powercat - Plenty of space on the flybridge
Leopard catamarans are well known to charter customers. The 46 and 53 models in particular form the backbone of The Moorings' fleet. The company offers the Powercats under its own company name at its charter destinations worldwide, primarily in the Mediterranean and the Caribbean.
However, the boats are designed and built in South Africa near Cape Town. Motorised catamarans have been part of the product portfolio since 2007 - and with the 40 Powercat, the shipyard is now presenting the latest addition to the family. The look and layout are based on the predecessor models and thus benefit from the many years of experience in the market segment.
Leopard 40 Powercat created for blue water areas
The design of the 12.19 m long and 6.61 m wide Leopard 40 Powercat is again aimed at blue water areas. Seaworthiness plays a major role (CE category A). Two 250 hp engines make the boat more than 20 knots fast. In addition, 1400 litres of fuel provide the necessary range and therefore real passagemaking qualities. The cruising speed is given as 17 knots.
Three double cabins and two heads (with WC and shower) in the hulls as well as the spacious saloon (almost completely glazed all round) are also reminiscent of the larger sisters, although the quality of workmanship is in no way inferior. According to the manufacturer, the catamaran also has the "largest flybridge ever seen on a 40-foot vessel".
In Europe, the Leopard 40 Powercat will be on display for the first time at the International Multihull Show (12 to 16 April 2023) in La Grande Motte in the south of France.
