Floating island: there is plenty of space.

The flagship of the French Beneteau subsidiary offers not only a generous amount of space but also an unusual choice of engines.

The Lagoon Eighty 3 is the first motor catamaran of this size from Lagoon and marks a strategic step for the brand into the segment of large power catamarans over 24 metres. At around 24.4 metres long and around 11 metres wide, the Eighty 3 consistently exploits the advantages of the catamaran concept: enormous deck areas, high dimensional stability and a significantly larger amount of space compared to monohull yachts in this class.

The exterior design remains true to the Lagoon line, but has a more functional and less playful look than the sailing models. The striking superstructure with large windows and the spacious flybridge, which functions as a second living area, are characteristic features. Aft, a spacious bathing platform connects the saloon with the water; the transition between the cockpit and the interior is almost seamless. Overall, the focus is less on the classic yacht feeling and more on the idea of an open, functional living space, according to the shipyard. Inside, Lagoon favours plenty of light and clear lines. Panoramic windows ensure good all-round visibility, while the interior is modern and designed for long-distance cruising.

Further news:

Depending on the layout, four to six guest cabins are possible, plus separate crew areas. The owner's version has a spacious suite with plenty of storage space and a separate bathroom. The Eighty 3 is powered by two diesel engines, which are primarily designed for range and economical cruising, not top speed. What is special here is that the engines come from John Deere and not, as usual, from Yanmar or Volvo Penta. The shape of the hull promises smooth running behaviour and good efficiency at moderate speeds.

All in all, the Lagoon Eighty 3 presents itself as a spacious, technically sophisticated motor catamaran with a strong focus on space, stability and long-distance capability. She is less of a sporty motor yacht and more of a comfortable platform for long-term living on board and extended voyages with plenty of space for guests and owners.

Editor Test & Technology

Ole Puls was born in Schleswig in 1999. He quickly swapped the football pitch for the Schlei and grew up sailing a wide variety of dinghies and tall ships. From his grandfather's self-built wooden opti and a Europe to a 49er and an X362 Sport, there was a lot to choose from. After leaving school, Puls decided to train as a boat builder at the high-tech shipyard Knierim Yachtbau in Kiel in 2016. He successfully completed his training in 2020 and stayed at the shipyard as a bachelor. In 2022, he decided not only to build boats, but also to test them. Since then, he has been working for Delius Klasing Verlag in the Test & Technology section of BOOTE magazine. The training he received and the eye for detail and quality of workmanship he acquired help him immensely today. Even though he is a regatta sailor with heart and soul, he feels right at home on motorboats and enjoys separating his professional and private lives and yet combining them. Because we all know one thing: there is simply no better place to be than on the water.
