Around the world - in just 40 days. German team aims to beat UIM record with high-performance catamaran

Not only insiders are electrified by this sequence of numbers: 60 - 23 - 49. This is the UIM record set by New Zealander Pete Bethune, who chased the almost 24 metre long trimaran "Earthrace" around the globe in 60 days, 23 hours and 49 minutes in 2008.

Never before has a motorboat circumnavigated the globe so quickly. But it should be even faster. Team Britannia has already opened the chase for the best performance (boote 12/2018). In Germany, "The Fast One" is now stretching its claws to claim the 2021 world record.

"The Fast One" in the crack: a 25 metre long wing-supported high-performance motor catamaran. The high-tech yacht is not intended to be a classic "racing goat" that is left without a job when the work is done. The idea is to create a boat that serves as a platform for later series production - for example in the SAR sector.

A concept that should appeal to sponsors. They are still being sought. After all, the record-breaking trip, which will take place in strict accordance with UIM regulations, has its price: an estimated 15 million euros, of which around 8 million euros is for the boat. Special Adventures, an association, is behind the project. The team includes naval architects, the foreman of a DGzRS rescue cruiser, an airline captain, a designer and a federal police officer. Their mission? "24,000 nm at 40 knots in 40 days!" www.the-fast-one.com
