The SDX line from American boat manufacturer Sea Ray is a popular boat type that is now available in three versions in the 23-foot class.

The new boats - SDX 230, SDX 230 Outboard and SDX 230 Surf - combine compact dimensions with good trailerability and at the same time offer extensive equipment options for various water sports activities.

Three variants for different applications

The basic SDX 230 model is powered by a 250 hp (184 kW) Mercury MerCruiser 4.5L MPI ECT petrol engine with Bravo Three drive. This sterndrive with twin propellers ensures good handling and precise manoeuvring, especially when mooring.

The outboard version is powered by a 200 hp (147 kW) Mercury FourStroke outboard engine. This engine offers the advantage of a large usable stern storage space, as the engine is mounted outside the hull.

The top model SDX 230 Surf is aimed specifically at wakesurfers. It has a powerful 350 hp (257 kW) MerCruiser 6.2L MPI ECT engine with a forward-facing Bravo Four S drive and counter-rotating propellers. This configuration creates an ideal wake for surfing.

Wakesurfing with NextWave system

The SDX 230 Surf model stands out from its sister models thanks to the integrated NextWave surfing system. This system features a ballast tank, electrically adjustable surf flaps and the Active Trim function, which automatically sets the optimum trim angle. It is controlled via Mercury Smart Tow with a special surf user interface and three preset modes for different sailing styles.

For good control, the Surf model is equipped with two 9-inch Simrad NSX touchscreen displays as standard. These show all relevant information on the waveform and system settings and allow easy adjustment while riding.

Layout of the three Sea Rays

All three models share the same basic layout with an open cockpit and L-shaped seating arrangement. In the bow there is a U-shaped lounge seating area with an integrated cooling compartment. As an option, this area can be converted into a full sunbathing area with additional cushions.

The stern has a convertible sunbed with a folding backrest that provides direct access to the wide bathing platform. A storage space in the floor provides room for wet equipment. An optional toilet can be installed on the starboard side.

The basic technical equipment of all models includes the SmartCraft DTS digital gearstick, a 9-inch Simrad touchscreen (two screens on the Surf model), SmartCraft Connect for smartphone connectivity, Active Trim for automatic trimming and a Fusion audio system.

Equipment packages

Sea Ray offers various equipment packages to customise the boats to individual requirements. The entertainment package includes inductive charging for smartphones and an improved audio system. The comfort package includes additional cushions for the bow and additional tables.

The Highline Appearance package is available exclusively for the Surf model. It includes higher-quality upholstery, SeaDek floor coverings and a two-tone exterior paint finish.
