SilverCat is launching the second generation of its power catamarans with the new 47 from the Family series. The shipyard, which has facilities in the United Arab Emirates and the Maldives, is focusing on a wider beam, recycled core materials and an in-house design. Measuring 14.3 metres in length and 4.92 metres in beam, the SilverCat 47 Family offers one of the largest saloon and cockpit areas in its class.

SilverCat, the catamaran division of the Gulf Craft Group based in the United Arab Emirates, is launching a new generation of models with the 47 from the Family series. This motor catamaran marks a fresh start for the brand – in terms of design, construction and choice of materials. The shipyard has significantly increased the beam-to-length ratio to create more usable space on deck and inside the cabin. With a hull width of 4.92 metres, the 47 is a floating marvel of space, with a seamless transition between the interior and exterior areas. The entire design is the work of the shipyard’s own team. SilverCat builds on more than four decades of experience in composite boatbuilding gained by its parent company. To Shipyard group Alongside SilverCat, these include the Nomad, Majesty and Oryx brands.

Cockpit and outdoor areas

The cockpit of the new 47 offers flexible seating arrangements. A wide-span hardtop provides shade, whilst optional fold-down balconies extend the cockpit right down to the waterline. An integrated, automatically extending swim ladder – developed in-house by SilverCat – allows direct access to the water. The wide-opening patio door connects the cockpit and saloon to form a single, open-plan space. At the bow, a spacious lounge offers seating for up to eight people – whether at anchor in the bay or out on the open sea. According to the shipyard, the aft saloon area is one of the largest for a boat of this length. Thanks to the greater beam, the outdoor areas feel more spacious than on previous models, whilst the lounge areas invite you to relax.

Interior and features

Open-plan layouts and expansive panoramic glazing characterise the interior. The materials are easy to maintain and pleasant to the touch, whilst the surfaces feature a contemporary design. En-suite cabins flooded with natural light offer good ventilation, and a tropical air-conditioning package ensures the yacht can be used all year round, even in the hottest regions. The galley and sleeping areas are designed with everyday family life on board in mind. “With the SilverCat 47, our aim was to rethink the modern power catamaran – through contemporary yacht styling, an intelligent layout and first-class craftsmanship,” explains Cristiana Cassese, Product Marketing Specialist at SilverCat. “Every line, every detail and every material has been carefully selected to create a distinct SilverCat identity.”

Design using recycled materials

For its new generation of products, SilverCat is using rPET foam core material made from 100 per cent recycled plastic. Compared with conventional SAN foam, this enables a significant reduction in CO₂ emissions during the manufacturing process, without compromising on strength or durability. The material meets the same structural requirements as conventional foams, but offers a measurable environmental benefit. For an industry that is increasingly having to address sustainability issues, this is a concrete step forward. The decision to use recycled core materials demonstrates that SilverCat integrates environmental considerations into its design. The SilverCat 47 from the Family series is the first model in a new generation, with further boats set to follow.

Martin Hager

Editor in Chief YACHT

Martin Hager is editor-in-chief of the titles YACHT and BOOTE EXCLUSIV and has been working for Delius Klasing Verlag for 20 years. He was born in Heidelberg in 1978 and started sailing at the age of six, in an Opti of course. This was soon followed by 420s, Sprinta Sport and 470s, which he also sailed on the regatta course with his brother. His parents regularly took him on charter trips through the Greek and Balearic Islands. Even at a young age, it was clear to him that he wanted to turn his passion for water sports into a career. After graduating from high school and completing an internship at the Rathje boatbuilding company in Kiel, it was clear that he did not want to become a classic boatbuilder. Instead, he successfully studied shipbuilding and marine engineering in the Schleswig-Holstein state capital and focused on yacht design wherever he could. His diploma thesis dealt with the “Testing of a new speed prediction method for sailing yachts”. In 2004, the superyacht magazine BOOTE EXCLUSIV was looking for an editor with technical and nautical background knowledge, a position that was perfect for Martin Hager. The application was successful and a two-year traineeship was arranged. After twelve years as an editor, the editorial team changed and he took over responsibility for BOOTE EXCLUSIV as editor-in-chief in 2017. After long-time YACHT editor-in-chief Jochen Rieker moved to the role of publisher, Martin Hager also took over the position of editor-in-chief of Europe's largest sailing magazine YACHT, which is celebrating its 120th anniversary this year, at the beginning of 2023. When he's not working on topics for the two water sports titles, Martin Hager likes to go out on the water himself - preferably with kite and wingfoil equipment or on a little after-work trip across the Alster.
