The Whisper catamaran joins the e-cat segment. With two electric motors, a large battery pack and solar support, it combines typical catamaran comfort.

With the Whisper 50, the shipyard is pursuing a consistently electrically orientated concept. The boat is based on a catamaran platform around 15 metres long and 6.7 metres wide. Visually, the Whisper 50 has a sober and functional appearance, with a clearly designed superstructure and large windows in the wheelhouse. The propulsion system consists of two electric motors, each with an output of around 100 kW.

They are powered by a lithium battery pack, which is supplemented by solar panels on the roof. The boat is also available in a hybrid version. The available solar surface is one of the defining elements of the concept and is intended to cover a significant proportion of the energy requirements in hotel operation, i.e. when you are only on board without travelling. The aim is not top speed, but low-emission and quiet cruising. The cruising speed is in the lower double-digit knot range, with a maximum speed of around 14 to 15 knots, depending on the load and configuration.

Inside, the Whisper 50 has a classic catamaran layout with a wide saloon on the main deck and several cabins in the hulls. Depending on the version, three or four cabins are possible, supplemented by separate heads compartments. The flybridge offers additional living space and a further covered steering position.

Editor Test & Technology

Ole Puls was born in Schleswig in 1999. He quickly swapped the football pitch for the Schlei and grew up sailing a wide variety of dinghies and tall ships. From his grandfather's self-built wooden opti and a Europe to a 49er and an X362 Sport, there was a lot to choose from. After leaving school, Puls decided to train as a boat builder at the high-tech shipyard Knierim Yachtbau in Kiel in 2016. He successfully completed his training in 2020 and stayed at the shipyard as a bachelor. In 2022, he decided not only to build boats, but also to test them. Since then, he has been working for Delius Klasing Verlag in the Test & Technology section of BOOTE magazine. The training he received and the eye for detail and quality of workmanship he acquired help him immensely today. Even though he is a regatta sailor with heart and soul, he feels right at home on motorboats and enjoys separating his professional and private lives and yet combining them. Because we all know one thing: there is simply no better place to be than on the water.
