The French catamaran manufacturer Catana, known in the motorboat scene for its YOT power cats, is expanding its portfolio with the YOT 53. It is the brand's first model with inboard engines and comes onto the market with a fresh layout that is unusual for this type of boat.

With a length of around 16 metres and a width of 7.70 metres, the YOT 53 offers around 40% more usable space than comparable monohulls, according to the shipyard. The spatial concept comprises three decks: The cabins are located on the lower deck, i.e. in the hulls, the main deck houses the saloon and cockpit, while the flybridge serves as a multifunctional roof terrace.

A special feature is the rear saloon wall, which opens completely upwards and connects the saloon with the cockpit, creating a continuous living area when the weather is fine. The U-shaped galley has been positioned at the front of the saloon, creating more space at the rear.

When at anchor, the rear sections of the side walls can also be folded down, which significantly increases the outside area. The boat is driven either from the flybridge or, in bad weather, from the driving position in the saloon with two single seats next to each other.

Cabins and owner's suite

The standard version of the YOT 53 has three cabins. The owner's cabin takes up the full width of the bow and offers a 180 x 200 cm double bed, a desk, a sofa and a spacious bathroom with separate toilet. A special feature is the direct access to the private foredeck cockpit.

The guest cabins are located in the starboard and port hull. The VIP cabin has a 160 x 200 cm double bed, while the guest cabin can be equipped with either a single or double bed. Both cabins have their own bathroom with separate toilet and plenty of cupboards and storage space. The interesting thing about this arrangement is that the beds are not, as is usually the case, long towards the hull, but are aligned transversely.

A four-cabin version is also available as an option, in which the large owner's cabin is replaced by two separate cabins in the bow. A crew cabin in the foredeck is standard.

ADrive and motorisation

The YOT 53 is powered by two Yanmar diesel engines (LY 440 or LY 550), which are available with either 440 hp (324 kW) or 550 hp (405 kW). This should enable the catamaran to reach cruising speeds of between 15 and 18 knots, with a top speed of around 23 knots. The thrust is delivered to the water in the traditional way via a reversing gearbox and shaft drive. As standard, two 975-litre tanks provide the necessary range for the Category A boat. If you want a longer range, you can get 2 x 500-litre tanks on top.

Energy supply and convenience

Lithium batteries with a 48-volt system can be installed as an option for power supply at anchor. According to the manufacturer, this enables energy-intensive devices such as the air conditioning system to be operated without a generator running, which should be particularly advantageous in quiet anchor bays.

The first boat in the series is expected to be delivered in 2026. There is currently no information on the price.
