These pictures are sure to set the hearts of every windjammer fan racing: four sister ships, almost identical in design, competed head-to-head in what was arguably the most unusual tall ship regatta in a long time. At the Five Sisters Trophy, which was held for only the second time recently, the German training ship ultimately came out on top. We had reported on this here on BOOTE-Online.
The German Consulate-General in Boston has now released videos of this major maritime event. The footage shows the “Gorch Fock” sailing into Boston Harbour at the end of the race. The footage is set to the German national anthem.
In another video, set to the hit song “We Are the Champions”, the moment when the trophy is presented to the captain of the “Gorch Fock” can be seen. The prize-giving ceremony took place on board the ship.
All the captains and crews of the four ships took part and cheered on the Germans. The consulate described it as a “nice show of international cooperation and friendly competition”.
