Let's not kid ourselves. Electromobility on the water is still in its infancy. Despite huge advances in development, particularly in battery technology, fully electric boats are still a long way from where we want them to be. Not to mention the charging infrastructure on German and European waterways. In the foreseeable future, however, hybrid drives, i.e. the combination of combustion engines and electric drives, will probably be a practicable solution.
The Greenline 45 Fly Hybrid presented in this issue is no exception. What makes this boat special and whether it can deliver what boaters expect from it in practice is part of Ralf Marquard's test.
Trailering with an electric car is about a different kind of electromobility. We put it to the test and took two electric SUVs from the Chinese luxury brand Nio on a tour through northern Germany. The aim was to find out whether it is even possible to trailer with an e-SUV and what restrictions you might have to expect. To summarise briefly: Yes, local trailer journeys of up to 300 kilometres are possible with good planning, but long-distance destinations such as the Mediterranean are still better tackled with a combustion engine.
Last but not least, in this topic area we also report on electric scooters, which are increasingly replacing the classic on-board wheel on many boats. Our market overview shows which models are suitable for boaters, which regulations need to be observed and what you should bear in mind when making a purchase.
