We presented the Delphia 11 Electric Sedan in BOOTE 08/22. Our test boat is the shipyard's smallest model, the Delphia 10, which is available in three different versions: As a sedan with an enclosed saloon, as a lounge top with a fixed roof over the cockpit or, like our test boat, as a lounge with an open cockpit. But our boat was also equipped with a roof, a large convertible top spans the cockpit and doors with zip fasteners are sewn into the entrances.
We travelled with the electrically powered Delphia 10 Lounge. The test area was the Makkumer Djip and the Ijsselmeer off Makkum. Mooring and casting off was easy with the bow and stern thruster. The Torqeedo gearstick and steering are also unrestricted and easy to operate. We can read the power consumption and speed data on a display. At creep speed with 1 kW, we measured 2.9 knots and calculated a range of 99 nautical miles with a 40 kW battery pack minus 15% reserve. At a speed of 5.0 knots, the range is 34 nautical miles, with a top speed of around 8.0 knots, which in turn gives a range of 6.5 nautical miles. So it's clear that travelling slowly is worthwhile in order to noticeably increase the range. If you want to double the range, you can also order an 80 kW battery pack. The noise level is within a pleasant range of between 45 dB/A and 69 dB/A over the entire driving range.
We head out onto the IJsselmeer and turn fast roundabouts, with the Delphia leaning a little on the outside of the bend and keeping a stable course. If you turn the steering back to straight ahead, a rudder angle indicator helps you to find the centre position again. The choppy sea on the IJsselmeer makes the hull soft and dry.
The driver sits on a wide, well-padded seat with side rests and a folding seat cushion at the front, so the driver's area also offers the option of travelling comfortably while standing. A securely fastened windscreen effectively protects the passengers from the wind and rain, but there was no windscreen wiper. The skipper has a good view of the instruments and the switches on the dashboard can be operated without restriction. Further praise: the standard analogue compass. The co-driver is seated on a variable bench seat. Depending on the position of the backrest, the bench can be used as a reclining surface or as a passenger seat. The shipyard has installed a grab handle directly in front of the co-pilot.
There is also a large seating unit with two tables in the cockpit, an ideal area for socialising with friends or family. The pantry block behind the driver's seat provides snacks and hot or cold drinks. A large bathing platform is located aft, on which two bicycles can be conveniently transported. They are attached to a sturdy bracket with special holders. Bathing enthusiasts will find an easy-to-handle bathing ladder under the platform and a stern shower for rinsing off after a swim. Wide side decks provide safe access to the foredeck, where optional cushions are available to create a cosy lounger.
Below deck, there is a companionway with two steps and an office on the port side. This room can also be converted into another cabin with two berths. Opposite is the wet room with toilet, washbasin and separate shower with split door. You sleep in the forward cabin on a double berth, but the cushions can also be pushed apart to convert it into single berths.
The engine is located under the cockpit floor and the cables are carefully routed there and in the stowage box in the rear cockpit area. A 3.3 kW charger is installed on our "Life" version to charge the batteries.
The Delphia is a cabin cruiser in which two people can enjoy a high level of comfort. The cockpit is particularly spacious. The electric motor is ideal for travelling on inland waterways, but can also be used for excursions to coastal waters.
