The second round of the E1 World Championship on Lake Como caused a real shake-up in the standings. While the favourite teams struggled, Westbrook Racing repeated its success from 2024, with Team Blue Rising in second place and Team Brady in third. Team Aoki, on the other hand, came second after winning the first race surprisingly did not make it past fifth place.
Despite a difficult start on the final day, Team Westbrook Racing proved to have staying power. Although pilot Sara Price damaged her boat early on the final day, she and her team-mate Lucas Ordóñez managed to win both final races on Lake Como. Westbrook Racing thus ousted Aoki from the top of the standings and now leads the overall E1 Series standings.
Will Smith recently caused a stir with the announcement of a future Race in Angola for headlines. This means that his racing team, which officially competes under the name Angola Westbrook Racing, will also have a real home race in the future.
Race driver John Peeters put in the strongest performance of the weekend for Blue Rising. After the first race in Jeddah, the US driver and his team were in last place in the overall standings. On this race weekend in Italy, he secured second place in Como with two outstanding starts and was named "PIF Pilot of the Day".
The weekend was mixed for the favourites: both the Aoki Racing Team and Team Brady were eliminated in the second qualifying session (Q2) and had to work their way up through the field on the final day. In the final, Team Brady's Emma Kimiläinen also collided with a course marker and damaged her RaceBird. Her team-mate Sam Coleman was ultimately able to bring the boat home in third place on the podium.
The third season of the E1 Series is still young and the overall standings are extremely close after the second race in Italy. Only 14 points currently separate the top four teams. Team Brady is currently just three points behind the new leaders from Westbrook Racing.
A Grand Prix in the E1 Series is held in a knockout system. Qualifying is followed by heats (heats), a race-off and a super final. The qualifying heats at the start of the race weekend are held individually and determine the starting grid for the heats. Five boats will compete in each heat on Saturday, from which the two best-placed boats will qualify directly for the final round.
The remaining teams then race again in the race-off for the last two places in the final. Only the two fastest teams in this round will receive a ticket for the final. The final round is the Super Final, in which the six best teams from the heats and the race-off compete for overall victory in two heats
