McConaghy Boats and the New Zealand propulsion specialist ZeroJet are launching the MC-ZERO 450, a yacht tender that combines lightweight carbon construction with electric jet propulsion. The 4.5 metre long boat weighs 830 kilograms dry and, according to the manufacturer, offers 40 percent more interior volume than comparable RIBs. The centrepiece of the design is a patented, movable steering position system. This utilises fly-by-wire technology and enables the console to be moved, allowing the deck area to be used flexibly. The modular deck can be converted from a passenger transporter to a load carrier in just a few minutes.
The MC-ZERO 450 has electrically extendable steps at the bow. These create a stable entry point for passengers when landing or moving between the boat and the jetty. The system is integrated into the bow and is operated electronically; it disappears completely when not in use. At the stern, there is a fully extendable platform that can be raised at the touch of a button. It extends the deck and creates a wide, stable surface. The platform is suitable for swimming, getting on and off the boat or as a sunbathing area on the water.
Two 30-kilowatt electric motors from ZeroJet power the MC-ZERO 450 tender. According to the manufacturer, the output corresponds to around 80 hp. The jets deliver instant power without delay. Power is supplied by a 32.4-kilowatt-hour battery system from SAFIERY. The 48-volt system has been specially developed for yacht tenders and is considered to be particularly safe. McConaghy gives the maximum speed as 25 knots. The tender offers space for eight to nine people and, according to the shipyard, can carry a payload of up to 650 kilograms.
MC-ZERO is the result of a collaboration between the Australian yacht builder McConaghy Boats and ZeroJet from New Zealand. McConaghy brings over five decades of experience in carbon racing boat construction. The company specialises in high-quality carbon yachts. ZeroJet contributes the 48-volt electric jet technology. The MC-ZERO 450 tender will celebrate its world premiere at the Palm Beach International Boat Show from 25 to 29 March 2026, followed by its European premiere at the Palma International Boat Show from 29 April to 2 May 2026.
