In the snow and at sea, always electric - Taiga Motors is on the move. The Montreal-based company pioneered the world's first electric snowmobile in 2018. This was followed two years later by the maritime debut model Orca, which is now available in two versions and will finally be available in Europe from 2026. A good time, because Taiga produces in Canada, even the drivetrains are developed in-house.
The Orca WX3, which can accommodate up to three people on its jockey seat for water sports activities, for example, has undergone the biggest overhaul. Thanks to its 120-kilowatt motor, the 360-kilogram vehicle can also be used as a tow boat for wakeboarding and water skiing or as a fishing base thanks to the small rear platform. With stop-and-go driving behaviour, excursions last up to two hours. The new battery generation aims to optimise fluid flow via an integrated cooling panel, reduce temperature fluctuations and increase continuous performance in very warm waters by up to 65 percent.
According to Taiga, software improvements lead to longer-lasting peak power and reduced quiescent current consumption for storage without recharging. Also new is the control algorithm of the combined IPM motor and inverter package. Automated manufacturing has enabled Taiga to optimise the stator winding, which is said to increase thermal efficiency by over 15 percent. The Orca series supports the CCS2 fast charging standard and allows bidirectional charging, transforming the fun device into a floating energy source. The cells are fully charged in less than 30 minutes with the appropriate DC chargers.
A new feature in the cockpit is an integrated chart plotter that displays current live locations and uses the geofencing function to narrow down areas, including the speed limits that apply there. Families or hire companies can configure individual speed limits and adapt the performance to different levels of experience. With additional shareable digital keys, Orca makes it easy to grant or restrict access to certain users. Also new for 2026 is a seamlessly integrated premium audio system with Bluetooth connectivity as an option.
Overseas, Taiga offers the Orca WX3 from just over 30,000 Canadian dollars. The Orca P2 returns as the performance benchmark of the range and is the evolution of the Orca Performance. The P2 continues to offer easy handling and instant acceleration on a lighter, more refined platform. The Orca P2 is available for pre-order starting at $26,000 Canadian.
