Finnish manufacturer Viva Electric Jets is introducing a new category of electric watercraft with its eMPV concept. The Cruizer, GT and PRO models combine the manoeuvrability of a jet ski with the stability of a wide platform.
Viva Electric Jets from Finland develops electric watercraft under the concept eMPV - electric MultiPurpose Vessel. The name describes watercraft that are designed to be wider than conventional jet skis and therefore offer more stability. The company is positioning the vehicles as an alternative for various areas of use on the water, from leisure to professional applications. According to the manufacturer, the electric drive technology delivers good acceleration without deceleration. The absence of combustion engines eliminates fuel odours and the risk of oil or petrol leaks in the water. The model range comprises three variants with different focal points. Viva uses partially recyclable bio-composite materials, which are said to reduce the CO2 footprint by 50 per cent compared to petroleum-based materials.
The Viva Cruizer is aimed at boat hire companies and is designed for intensive use. According to the manufacturer, the model is designed for heavy-duty use. The Viva GT focusses on leisure use with comfort features. The PRO model was developed for professional applications and has a modular concept. The platform enables various superstructures for working on the water. All models share the basic eMPV architecture with a wide design. The width increases stability compared to narrow jet ski hulls. Side and rear platforms provide working space directly on the water surface.
There is a large, watertight storage space in the bow for equipment, tools or personal items. The rear platform can be used for access from the water or as a work surface. The modular system of the PRO model allows superstructures to be exchanged depending on the intended use.
The lithium batteries provide energy for two hours of travelling time. The quick-charging function charges the battery from ten to 80 per cent in less than 30 minutes. The electric drive operates quietly compared to combustion engines. Charging takes place at standard charging stations without any special infrastructure.
Viva uses bio-composite materials that are based on renewable raw materials instead of crude oil. The manufacturer claims a 50 per cent reduction in CO2 compared to conventional materials. The electric drive technology produces no direct exhaust fumes while travelling. The low-noise operation reduces noise emissions on the water.
