After Tim Heywood was previously responsible for the exteriors of the entire portfolio, the Dutch shipyard has now engaged another well-known yacht designer, Espen Øino, for the Amels 60. This is Amels' second collaboration with the Norwegian, after a custom design by him is already under construction and will be delivered in 2021. For the Amels 60, he created a somewhat more angular exterior than previously seen on the limited editions. The trapezoidal windows at the front of the main deck and the huge jump in the bulwark at saloon level are eye-catching from a distance. Øino: "Amels and our team have combined their expertise and designed an advanced yacht."
The Amels 60 is powered by a hybrid propulsion package and has a range of 4,500 nautical miles at a speed of 13 knots; a maximum of 15.5 knots is possible. The yacht can travel electrically at up to seven knots, allowing it to leave the marina or anchorage silently. The owner leaves behind a reduced "ecological footprint" and also enjoys lower running costs. Rose Damen, Managing Director of Amels, says: "The Amels 60 has an absolutely pioneering propulsion concept that our customers can rely on. No displacer on the market offers a comparable mix of comfort, quality and efficiency."
The shipyard from Vlissingen engaged London-based Studio Indigo for the interior design. Under the direction of Mike Fisher, the 50 or so designers developed a look of modern elegance for the Amels 60. Thanks to the variety of materials and fabrics, owners and guests on board should constantly have new visual and tactile experiences. According to Fisher, the layout of the yacht has been optimised to improve the feeling of space and enhance the impression of the already generous volume (830 grosstons). The first Amels 60 is already under construction and is scheduled for delivery in spring 2022.
