Four months after the launch at ISA Yachts in Ancona, the 44.30 metre steel and aluminium construction caught fire off Formentera.

The fire broke out on Thursday 11 August due to as yet unexplained circumstances. There are said to have been no injuries. The following day, the Spanish maritime salvage company (Salvamento Marítimo) towed the "Aria SF", or what was left of it, to the south coast of Ibiza. There, a company commissioned by the owner was to carry out the salvage work. The yacht finally sank on 13 August.

Around the twelve-metre-deep sinking off Cap Martinet, the focus of the emergency response team is on preventing contamination from fuels, lubricants and hydraulic oil. According to the local media Periódico de Ibiza y Formentera, the work is being carried out using a state-of-the-art technology known as hot tapping, in which the liquids are sucked to the surface in a controlled manner using a hose and then taken ashore to an authorised waste disposal company.

"Aria SF" is the first ISA Granturismo 45 and was to be shown at the trade fairs in Cannes and Monaco. The new model, of which two further units are under construction, was developed by designer Enrico Gobbi together with ISA based on the highly acclaimed 66-metre custom format "Okto".
