"Artefact" set sail from Nobiskrug in Rendsburg and reached the Mediterranean in Gibraltar. The most notable features of the Gregory C. Marshall design include extensive glazing (740 square metres, 60 tonnes), a GRP superstructure on a steel hull, solar panels for energy generation and a diesel-electric propulsion system that is said to be 30 percent more efficient than conventional systems.
