John Staluppi used to be a speed freak. Now he thinks differently. The 61 metre long Benetti "Diamonds Are Forever" calms the nerves. Charter welcome.

He's back again. This phrase, always used at another premiere of his cinema hero, also applies to John Staluppi time and time again. Staluppi, a James Bond fan like no other, consistently named his latest project after the title of a 1971 Bond film: he and his wife Jeanette called the 61-metre-long Benetti "Diamonds Are Forever".

Anyone who has known the industry for a few years will remember Staluppi's first Bond adventures, "Octopussy" (Heesen 1987, 53 knots), "Moonraker" (1992, 66 knots) or the later racers such as "The World Is Not Enough" (Staluppi's own brand Millennium, 2004, 68 knots).

Speed fan Staluppi, who is said to have been born to build yachts like Sean Connery was born to become James Bond, changed his concept. You get on in years. John and Jeanette let it be known that they were tired of always having to worry about the weight of the beds and tables when designing. It was a strategic decision. The Staluppis found their way to displacers, to "Casino Royale" (Christensen 2008, 50 metres, 17 knots) and "Quantum Of Solace" (Benetti 2001/2009, 52 metres, 15 knots).

Nerves need rest

The Benetti "Diamonds Are Forever" now continues this concept of calm nerves. He wants to enjoy more comfort, travelling in peace. That is why he has now also taken a gym, a beauty parlour, a massage room and a sauna on board. This was not possible back then with projects for 60 knots.
