Anyone who talks about Elegance yachts has to mention the name Drettmann in the same breath, because without the yacht trade, this brand would not exist. The Elegance Open Open is the Bremen-based company's open-air entry into the sporty yacht league.

These boats are produced in the Far East by Horizon Yachts on behalf of Drettmann and exclusively for the Bremen-based family business.

It all started with flybridge yachts, which have been built for 17 years. However, because there are not only enthusiasts for flybridge yachts, but also for "flat constructions", the Drettmann Group expanded its range in 2009 to include the Open series.

Our test boat is the smallest in the Open League. Below deck, the yacht offers a saloon with driving position, galley, three bedrooms and two heads compartments.

Logically, the one wet room is only intended for the owner's cabin. We are also not surprised that it is more spacious than the guest cabin. Both have a washbasin, WC and shower cubicle.

The owner's cabin is located roughly in the centre and extends across the entire width of the boat. On our test boat, it offers amenities such as thick, comfortable mattresses on slatted frames, a swivelling TV, a sofa and long-fibre, soft carpeting.

Ralf Marquard

Deputy Editor in Chief BOOTE

Ralf Marquard discovered his enthusiasm for boating on the tranquil Aller, first with inflatable boats and later with a 6-meter cabin cruiser. His electrical engineering studies at HAW Hamburg took him from the southern Heidekreis (Lower Saxony) to the Hanseatic city. Ralf Marquard has been working for the BOOTE editorial team since 1997, where he trained as a test editor. He tests both small inflatable boats and larger yachts. His personal boat is a 4.50 meter long, self-built wooden boat with a 50 hp outboard motor. In 2007, he was appointed deputy editor-in-chief at BOOTE.
