To The deck of the Italian boat is covered in teak, as are the decking, the panelling, the decors of the lockers and compartments and the bulwark on the top. You can certainly argue about sustainability here. If it comes from certified plantations, it is easier to overlook. In any case, it is and remains elegant.

Let's start outside the boat first. We find it difficult to describe the design. Is it modern? The hull goes in that direction, but the rest does not necessarily correspond to the latest design studies. Compared to modern and popular designs such as the Axopar 37 or the Naval S30, for example, one would speak of a classic look. One could speak of a unique Italian style.

Italyure 38 available in three versions

The 38 model series was presented for the first time in March 2021. It can be ordered in three different versions. The Classic and Comfort versions are equipped with an inboard engine, while the Sport version we tested is only supplied with an outboard engine. Two white 350 hp engines from Suzuki are attached.

When you enter the 11.75 metre long boat via the bathing platform, the first thing you notice is the stern seating area, which offers space for six to eight people. The cushions are comfortable and you don't sink in too deep. If you fold out the table and lower it by hand, you have a 1.66 x 1.63 metre sunbathing area. This is sufficient for two people. If the sun is too strong, the rear area can be shaded from the T-top with an awning.

A small pantry with fridge, sink and cooker is installed behind the sun lounger. There is also sufficient space for kitchen accessories. Further forward, the driving position is located on the port side and the companionway on the starboard side. On the foredeck there is another 1.73 x 1.80 metre sunbathing area with a retractable backrest. There is also an anchor locker.

The colour concept and layout

One floor below, things are simpler. Lots of white and, how could it be otherwise, lots of wood again. The concept may be a little dated, but it looks harmonious. You can hardly tell that our boat is used for chartering. Anyone who knows what boats can generally look like after a year or two in hire will be surprised. A sign of good quality from the manufacturer and good care from the charter company, Me Yachting in Mallorca. The company is also a dealer for the brand. Viewings and test drives are possible at Marina La Lonja.

There is a toilet and two cabins below deck. The beds in the aft cabin can be ordered either as a double bed or as two single beds. Our version had the single beds, which are 0.52 x 1.80 metres in size. Too small for adults, but could be enough for small children for the night. The owner's cabin in the foredeck and the wet room are more luxurious. The bed here measures 1.55 x 2.00 metres and is therefore more than sufficient for two people.

The toilet with adjoining shower is surprisingly large and bright. The design is also more modern with marble-look panelling. This also reflects the Italian style well. There is also an electric toilet and plenty of storage space.

The test drive with the Italyure 38

Let's move on to the driving. The two outboards accelerate the test boat up to 38 knots. You get the feeling that they struggle a little at first. However, if you look at the Italure's log display, this is not the case. We quickly reach 27 knots, which also corresponds to an economical planing speed of 4500 revolutions per minute. We consume 4.61 litres per nautical mile. When manoeuvring at slow speed, you notice the weight of over 7.5 tonnes and are grateful for the bow thruster. When travelling at speeds of more than 20 knots, the 38 Sport moves more light-footedly. Sure, 700 hp is a lot. But if you take the weight into account, it is still not a boat for high speeds. In our eyes, it is more for families who simply want to have fun on the water and love the feeling of the Dolce Vita. And it conveys this without any compromises.

Conclusion

The build quality of the Italyure 38 Sport is good. It feels a little sluggish when sailing, which is certainly due to its weight. However, this can also be an advantage; the stability in the harbour or at anchor is higher as a result. All in all, a successful boat for the family.

From his grandfather's self-built wooden opti and a Europe to a 49er and an X362 Sport, there was a lot to choose from. After leaving school, Puls decided to train as a boat builder at the high-tech shipyard Knierim Yachtbau in Kiel in 2016. He successfully completed his training in 2020 and stayed at the shipyard as a bachelor. In 2022, he decided not only to build boats, but also to test them. Since then, he has been working for Delius Klasing Verlag in the Test & Technology section of BOOTE magazine. The training he received and the eye for detail and quality of workmanship he acquired help him immensely today. Even though he is a regatta sailor with heart and soul, he feels right at home on motorboats and enjoys separating his professional and private lives and yet combining them. Because we all know one thing: there is simply no better place to be than on the water.
