Turquoise Yachts launched "Jewels" in Pendik, Turkey. The razor-sharp lines were created by Luiz de Basto and the interior by H2 Yacht Design.

Turquoise uses the shipyard site in Pendik for the equipment, while in Kocaeli, which is also located in the greater Istanbul area, mainly steel and aluminium work is carried out in three halls.

For "Jewels", the owner commissioned the design to studios in two very different time zones: DeBasto Design from Miami for the exterior and London-based H2 Yacht Design for the interior. Both sides had to deal with 720 gross tonnes of interior volume, a considerable figure for a 53-metre yacht. "Given the enormous volume, I wanted to convey a sense of dynamic forward motion rather than a static feeling," says Luiz DeBasto, who most recently worked on "DAR" ( Issue 4-19 ) caused a sensation. "The design reveals movement and practicality from every angle." As sporty as "Jewels" may look, the steel-aluminium single structure is powered by two 969-kilowatt Caterpillar engines and only runs at a maximum speed of 15 knots.

The layout is also well thought out and different. Five guest cabins are spread across the lower deck, which is up to 9.30 metres wide, whereby the typical beach club area has been sacrificed for an additional guest cabin. The owner's cabin and a VIP suite are located on the forward main deck. The walkways for guests and crew are completely separate on all decks. There is accommodation for ten crew members on the lower deck and a captain's cabin on the upper deck next to the bridge. "The client preferred a traditional yacht aesthetic, combining classic teak with gold inlays, bevelled edge mirrors, colourful textiles and highly decorative stone," says James Bermudez of H2 Yacht Design.

The turquoise-coloured exterior paintwork appears to have been adapted to the shipyard's name and was previously chosen by the "Go" owner for his 77-metre Turquoise (issue 2-19) in combination with white superstructures.
