The Dutch company previously used the Antalya site to build the yacht support models. Damen Yachting laid the keel for the 77-metre explorer "La Datcha" (BOOTE EXCLUSIV issue 3/22) in Romania and fitted it out in Vlissingen.
The SeaXplorer 58 now presented has an interior volume of 1090 gross tonnes. By comparison, the Amels 60, a 60-metre model from Damens Yachtmarke, has 830 gross tonnes. Plenty of space to realise the owner's design idea, which is inspired by the river steamer in Fitzcarraldo. In the classic film by Werner Herzog, Klaus Kinski as Fitzcarraldo sails the Amazon in his ship to build an opera house in the jungle. The British Design Unlimited studio revealed the first details of the eclectic interior in a video (below): behind the rust-red slats of the main deck, the bar and lounge are cabana-style, with bamboo walls, velvet and embroidery. "The decoration is almost like picking up flotsam and jetsam and using it as inspiration," says designer Sophie Porteous. The main deck ends with a pool surrounded by synthetic teak decking.
The edgy, voluminous exterior design was provided by Azure Yacht Design. Once again, there is a lookout in the raised bow, here in the semi-open version. Up to twelve guests can check in on the latest explorer vehicle, which is looked after by a crew of 15. There is room for two more people, including expedition guides or sports trainers. The Explorer with its ice-class steel hull promises 30 days of autonomy and high excursion potential: an 11.40 metre custom sailboat, two multi-purpose tenders, motorbikes and road and off-road vehicles are to be accommodated on the aft deck.
Damen Yachting is working on a SeaXplorer 60 with hybrid drive in Antalya, but still without an owner. Details are available here.
