The Italian Mylius shipyard has made a name for itself with carbon sailing boats. Their engine formats are just as fast as the M47P. With four Mercury 500Rs and a two-stage V-hull, the 15 GRP metres run at 57 knots.

It is no longer unusual for shipyards that build sailing yachts to include motorised formats in their portfolios. In most cases, the opening up is not only for diversification, but also for practical reasons, as is the case with Mylius. Shipyard boss Luciano Gandini needed a companion boat for his 80-foot sailboat and wanted to use a power format designed by Alberto Simeone. The 15.40 metre long Mylius M47P was born. It was also intended to meet the increasing demand from the USA. As a result, high-performance outboards were fitted to the 4.20 metre wide stern: four Mercury 500Rs with a combined output of 1470 kilowatts propelled the 13.5-tonner to 57 knots. At 25 knots, miles can be made in a fuel-efficient manner.

Mylius manufactures the two-stage V-hull in Podenzano. Unlike the fast gliders that are also produced there, only the hardtop of the M47P is made of carbon fibre. Everything else is laminated with epoxy resin using glass fibre infusion and cured at 60 degrees Celsius for 16 hours. There is one adhesive joint. The control console comes with colour-customisable Besenzoni seats and two 19-inch Garmin displays, which enable complete monitoring of all on-board systems, instruments and important aids. A joystick facilitates docking and casting off manoeuvres.

Two cabins, two companionways

The autopilot, windscreen wipers, the retractable telescopic anchor at the bow and the infotainment system connected to Garmin, which operates four audio zones: owner's cabin, guest cabin, steering position and aft deck, can all be controlled from the control centre. The Seakeeper 4.5 is available as an option, and the side panels can also be folded down on request. A special feature of the M47P: the two cabins are spatially separated and therefore have their own access and bathroom.

Mylius drives expansion forward

Mylius has already made a name for itself with the voluminous flybridge format Mylius 62 Power to draw attention to itself. But that's not all. "We are delighted to have embarked on this journey and to enter the motor yacht market with two product lines," says Valentina Gandini, CEO of Mylius Yachts. "Although different in style and purpose, the M47P and MY62 faithfully reflect our approach and maintain the family feel that characterises the shipyard. Two examples of the M47P have already been produced and four more are in the pipeline. We are therefore well on the way to producing twelve boats per year. In contrast to our sailing yachts, which remain the company's core business with their customised style, the motor yacht line could be described as the shipyard's prêt-à-porter collection."
