The hull and superstructure were manufactured by German Naval Yards Kiel, while Nobiskrug fitted out the yacht in Rendsburg. The yacht's name, artefact in German, describes an object of cultural and historical interest created by human hands. The use of 70 tonnes of glass is probably historically unique. Incorporated into the exterior designed by Gregory Marshall Studio, this is certainly of artistic value - and an expression of the highest engineering skill. The tapered window mosaics in the lower deck were a particular headache for glass specialists. Holger Kahl, Managing Director of Nobiskrug, comments on "Artefact": "The composite surface structure and the use of very large, customised, specially curved glass windows are monumental."
The low-noise, low-vibration hybrid drive, which consists of Azipods and batteries, is innovative. Reymond Langton designed the interior of the voluminous five-deck yacht (2,990 gross tonnes) and located the owner's cabin aft. "Artefact" is scheduled for completion in 2019 and will be exhibited at the Monaco Yacht Show next year.
