Quality has its price. Especially when it is propelled through the water at breathtaking speed by extremely powerful engines and innovative drives. Sunseeker has been playing in the Premier League for a long time, also in terms of price. This has not damaged its image. On the contrary, Sunseeker yachts have quickly become a status symbol for which people are willing to pay a premium.
Today, in the first year after the financial crisis, things look a little different. King customer is cautious and wants to be wooed even by renowned shipyards such as Sunseeker. Perhaps this is why Poole has surprisingly decided in favour of comfort when it comes to the question "More horsepower or more comfort?". On our test boat, the Portofino 48, the really big engines remain on the shelf and the owner's cabin remains what it is: a suite with a separate bathroom - which houses a glass shower cubicle, a washbasin console, a vacuum toilet and plenty of cupboards - a comfortable double bed in XXL format and the obligatory view of the sea.
Now Sunseeker wouldn't be Sunseeker if there wasn't a "top-up" in terms of motorisation. If 870 hp and a top speed of just under 32 kn are not enough, Volvo Pentas IPS 600 can be installed as a trio rather than a double pack.
