With its variable number of cabins, it can be designed and used for very different requirements

As an owner's version with two cabins, for the family with three cabins, or even as a charter boat with four cabins - our test boat, the 989 Platinum can be completely customised. This is made possible byPartition wall troughs in the deck shape. WhichSplitting options is there?

Number one, like our test boat, consists of a large bow cabin with a double berth and another double berth in the starboard underfloor cabin. A room of the same size is located opposite and is used as a huge storage space on our test boat.

As you might expect, this can also be combined with aTwo-man berth and equip theThree-cabin version is ready. If you add a partition in the centre of the forward cabin, you have a total of four cabins and eight berths. MoreOptions is available at theWet roomslocated between the bow and underfloor cabins. One toilet compartment comes as standard, the second is on the accessories list.

There are two heads compartments on our test boat, one with a toilet, washbasin and shower hose, the other with a shower and washing facilities. Both are well organised and are ventilated via a ceiling outlet and porthole.

The latter also applies to the two cabins. There are also two ceiling hatches in the forward cabin. On the subject ofVentilate the holes under the upholstery are also a positive feature. TheMattresses have good firmness and provide sleeping comfort.

The salon is dominated by aU-shaped seating area with a tablewhich can be folded in the centre to make it easier to reach the middle seats on the bench. Opposite is the galley with gas cooker and sink, hot water is only available for an extra charge, as is the fridge.

The same applies to the stern bench if, as on our test boatConvertible into a lounger and the cushion for the bow sunlounger. Bathing enthusiasts can walk past both sides of the stern bench to access theBathing platform to get there.

However, if you want to get to the folding ladder, you have to take the path to starboard, because davits (extra) also need their place and walking from one side to the other is not possible without contortions. Exemplary: TheExtension ladder can also be easily operated from the water. If you want to shower off after bathing, you can do so at the easily accessible rear shower (surcharge).

Driving and manoeuvring

The driving position is located in the saloon and has a comfortable seat. The front cushion can be folded up for travelling in a standing position, but there is not enough headroom to stand up. Although there is a hatch in the saloon roof nearby, it is so far offset to the centre that you can only see out of the top with contortions.
to look out of it. When seated, the skipper looks through grey tinted safety glass.

Two sturdy windscreen wipers clean a large field of vision, but are on the accessories list. There were defroster nozzles in front of the windscreen on the test boat, but these are only available if you also order the heater. Apart from slight limitations with the rev counter (partly behind the steering wheel), the driver has a good overview.

Minus: the navigation instruments are on the accessories list. The sports steering wheel, thruster control panel and single-lever gearstick (mechanical version) are easy to reach. A Nanni diesel with 115 hp is operated via the gearstick. However, there are a variety of diesel options (standard is 30 hp) and outboard variants (standard 80 hp). With our diesel engine, we achieved a maximum of 8.3 knots at exactly 2600 rpm, as recommended by the manufacturer.

To be economical when travelling with the test version, the diesel should turn at around 1750 rpm (almost 6.5 knots). With a consumption of a good 1.10 l/sm, this results in a suitable range of over 200 nm plus 15% reserve.

In this situation, the volume directly at the driver's ear is 60 dB/A with the saloon door closed. If you open the saloon door, the volume level increases by around 7 dB/A, which is still bearable. Pro-
The straight-ahead running is also problem-free, whether fast or slow, the driver hardly ever has to correct the rudder.

Despite the hydraulic design, the steering remains sufficiently smooth in fast bends. During this manoeuvre, the Platinum leans slightly on the outside of the bend and circles calmly by about three boat lengths before swinging lengthways into its own wave. During harbour manoeuvres, the circles are no more than two boat lengths, and the standard bow thruster is best used to help with turning. If you want to be on the safe side, you can also order the stern thruster.

Technology and safety

The diesel can be reached via the large stern stowage compartment, which is accessible via a hatch in the cockpit floor. From this space, a bulkhead has to be removed in the direction of the saloon, from where the serviceman can first see the gearbox and then the engine, which is located low aft.

The shipyard recognises that this access alone is not sufficient and has installed hatches on the sides of the two underfloor compartments to provide direct access to the engine. The cables and hoses are all neatly laid and the batteries and tanks are properly secured.

In the event of a fire in the engine compartment, the fire is extinguished via a fire extinguisher opening (from 2017). Two electric pumps and a manual bilge pump are used for extinguishing.

The 989 Platinum is being built at the Delphia shipyard in Poland. However, the shipyard has nothing to do with the development of the boat - it is an independent design by Yachts Export Poland. Apart from minor details, the result is a well-made boat that shines with clean plastic surfaces and is deburred and sealed at the cut-outs.

The list of accessories is extensive, for example the stern door from our test boat is included as an extra, as the standard version only has a lockable roller blind. A practical option is a side door by the driver's side, which can be used to quickly access the centre cleat (also an accessory), especially when locking the boat with one hand. The owner pays a good 3000 euros more if he not only wants the CE category C, but also the B version with a reinforced hull.

Conclusion:

The 989 Platinum is a very versatile boat due to its cabin and wet cell variants as well as the different equipment options. It is neatly finished and its driving and manoeuvring characteristics are impressive.
