Delta 400 SW: A Scandinavian cabin cruiser for six people with plenty of equipment. We tested it on the Flensburg Fjord.

That theScandinavian countries It is in the nature of things that the countries in Europe are known as water sports nations, as there are plenty of areas for boating everywhere. In some cases, the inhabitants even need a boat to get home - to an island, for example. It is therefore hardly surprising that the north is home to a large number of shipyards - including Luksusjaht in Sweden, where our Delta 400 SW test boat is manufactured.

TheDelta has a typical Nordic deck structure with a negatively inclined windscreen (the upper side points towards the bow), which is often found on commercial vessels. Solid handrails and non-slip floor structures are just as much a part of the Delta concept as the flat silhouette.

The same applies for theDriving positionwhich has direct access to the side deck. This side exit is particularly practical for mooring and one-man locks.
Below deck, the designer has accommodated three sleeping cabins and a wet room.

TheBow cabin are intended for the owner due to their size, layout and equipment. The centre cabin and aft cabin also have double berths, which are noticeably narrower (1.32 to 1.45 m) and are intended for guests and family members. The aft cabin is more suitable for adults than the centre cabin, as it offers more headroom and the wider berth.

Equipment andStorage space are roughly the same for both. For theentire crew there is a wet room equipped with everything you need in a bathroom. However, the shower entrance is so narrow (0.36 m) that full-grown men have to wriggle through the entrance.

Also on theWashbasin with a distance of around 0.59 m between the wall and the shower partition. The galley, which the designer has accommodated in the saloon behind the driving position, makes a practical impression. It is well equipped with an oven, two-burner gas hob, large refrigerator, ample work surface and storage space for preparing food and hot drinks.

Dining takes place in the cosy seating area opposite, which can be easily extended with the variable passenger bench (either passenger or saloon bench). In the saloon, the good all-round visibility through the windows and the rear door and the resulting daylight are particularly striking.

Further light comes in through the panoramic windows in the roof; the front section can be slid aft, making the driver and front passenger position a place in the sun. If you want to enjoy the sun even more, you can use the rear aisle (with multi-locking sliding door) to get into the sunroom.Cockpit.

There is an L-shaped bench with a wooden table that can be lowered to create a sun lounger. The shipyard has installed an all-round handrail to provide the necessary support. The large bathing platform is easily accessed via the stern passageway with an insertion door. A bathing ladder is standard, but was not installed on the test boat.

AsStandard motorisation the shipyard installs aDuo from the companyVolvo Penta. Two D3-300s with Z-drive and duoprop provide propulsion. They accelerate the boat effortlessly and without obstructing the view from displacement to planing speed. From around 2500 rpm, the bow lowers again automatically and the Delta glides at a good speed.25 kn stable course over the water.

For a somewhat quicker transition, theTrim tabs but they are not absolutely necessary. They are used when the boat lays on its side due to wind, for example. With the trim tabs set all the way up and the Z-drives slightly raised, the Delta can be brought into the optimum position at full throttle (3400 rpm) at almost 40 knots.

In this situation, just under 3 l/sm through the diesel lines, which with the tank capacity of 800 land15 % reserve results in a range of 231 nm. Our test combination glides economically between 25 and just under 30 knots. This means that non-stop distances of 300 nm are possible, which can certainly be considered respectable for this type of boat.

The same applies to the fast manoeuvres: in curves, the fuselage makes clean circles without hooking or rocking, and the duoprops always stay in place.friction-locked. The boat follows the steering movements safely and directly on slalom courses and when the steering is jerked. Further plus points: the rudder is child's play to turn and choppy waves on theFlensburg Fjord the hull travels as smooth as butter.

The shipyard provides the bow thruster as standard so that there is no hectic when mooring, which, together with the dual motorisation, makes the boat a real pleasure to use.Good manoeuvrability results. If you want to be one hundred per cent sure, you can order a stern thruster for an extra charge. Everything is operated from a clearly structured control station, where you can control theRaymarine chartplotter (14" as standard) is just as easy to read as the Volvo instruments.

The skipper finds his place on aBucket seatwhich can be adjusted in any direction. If you want to drive semi-standing, fold up the front seat cushion and lean against it. Standing up is not possible for the 1.80 metre tall skipper as he would bump into the saloon roof.

Danger for the head also exists at the entrance door to the saloon (cockpit floor higher than saloon floor) and at the companionway to the cabins (edge of the driving position). TheMotors are located under a cockpit floor lid that opens simply by pressing a button. The service technician has plenty of room to work underneath.

The installations make a good impression, which applies to the entire finish apart from a few silicone seams. Especiallypositive theExtensive standard equipment on.
