Two and a half years ago, the first 107-metre-long "Ulysses", which New Zealand entrepreneur Graeme Hart also commissioned from the Norwegian Kleven shipyard in Ulsteinvik, moored at the same location in Bremerhaven's fishing port. Hart was able to sell his first mega-explorer at the end of 2017. The hull of "U116" consists of three blocks, which were manufactured by CIG Shipbuilding in Poland.
Kleven completed the ice-classed explorer before it arrived in Bremerhaven for further expansion in December 2016. As with its smaller sister ship, there will probably be space for a 20-metre tender on the foredeck. A certified helipad is located on the upper deck behind the bridge, and the new "Ulysses" also has balconies and an owner's suite facing the bow. The styling of the 18-metre wide, 66-passenger certified five-decker comes from the computer of designer Kyle Dick from the New Zealand design studio Oscar Mike Naval Architects, while the lines and engineering are the work of Marin Teknikk from Norway. The first test runs are due to take place in March.
