Pierpaolo Lazzarini amazes the yachting world with his extraordinary "Avanguardia" project. The designer, who was born in 1982 and used to work in the automotive sector, was apparently inspired by a swan when creating his extravagant maritime fantasies. Not only the superstructure of the 137 metre long (!) yacht is reminiscent of the majestic bird, but above all the special bow section of "Avanguardia". The swan neck is integrated into it, which can be lowered to the water's surface, extending the yacht to a total of 157 metres and then lowering the yacht's wheelhouse, which also functions as a 16-metre-long tender. In this case, the command centre is moved to the neck.
Huge window areas in the superstructure of "Avanguardia" will delight the established glass suppliers, but also the up to 24 guests, who will enjoy the very bright interior. The stern of the yacht, which is capable of 18 knots (thanks to jet booster propulsion), houses two capsule tenders that are electrically powered and whose batteries are automatically recharged when they dock with the mother ship. A further three tenders are launched via side flaps; two helicopters, which are stored on board in hangars or are available on the helipads in the centre and at the stern, ensure airy transfers.
Whether "Avanguardia" will ever be built certainly depends on numerous feasibility studies and, of course, on a visionary owner who dares to take on such a project. Pierpaolo Lazzarini gives a (probably understated) estimate of 500 million US dollars as the purchase price. And the crew size of 22 should also be reconsidered.
