The ClubSwan 125 saw the light of day and not only surprised with Polynesian hull graphics. For the Finnish shipyard, it is the fastest monohull ever conceived.

Everything should have been clear to everyone right from the start. Nautor brought together the world's best boat builders and designers in Pietarsaari, Finland - just 300 kilometres from the Arctic Circle - for what was being created in the Swan halls. And a 46 metre long oven was specially built in which the sandwich laminate - prepreg carbon on Nomex and Corecell cores - of the 38.10 metre long hull and deck was created. Like all new ClubSwans, the lines were created by Juan Kouyoumdjian. The Spanish-based Argentinean, who everyone just calls "Juan Kay" due to his tongue-twisting surname, predicts that the ClubSwan 125 will sail upwind at 15 knots and will always be faster than the wind on aft courses.

Above all, however, the ClubSwan flagship is associated with one name: Enrico Chieffi. The Nautor Vice President sold the radical design on the sidelines of the 2016 Maxi Rolex Cup. The two-time Olympic sailing champion and active regatta sailor in the Starboat told BOOTE EXCLUSIV the story of the flash order during a visit to the shipyard in spring 2018. His description of the ClubSwan 125 was: "Record Breaking Creature". This referred to the sailing machines competing for the Sydney Hobart victory. Even if it was hard to believe at the time, Chieffi was right. Because the finished hull that Nautor presented now - three years later - looks exactly like a "Record Breaking Creature". Without a teak deck, but with a fixed sprayhood, the so-called dodger. The bowsprit is longer than one of the two rudder blades, and the bomb of the canting keel is suspended from an extremely narrow fin with a continuous trim tab. The underwater hull is almost as flat as a surfboard, with a C-foil running through the hull, as used on the ClubSwan 36. However, one figure best illustrates the ambitions of the ClubSwan 125: the targeted displacement of 56.4 tonnes, fully equipped, mind you. The 8.50 metre shorter Swan 98 weighs a good six tonnes more.

Enrico Chieffi said on the occasion of the exhibition: "The ClubSwan 125 makes us very proud. This boat is representative of the innovation that has grown out of Nautor's Swan heritage." Nautor has scheduled the launch for June 2021. A short time later, the ClubSwan 125 is likely to earn incredulous looks once again. Because the rigging package will certainly be no less radical.
