Large German shipyards have been using laser welding systems for over a decade, but A&R can now also realise complex three-dimensional geometries - an innovation in European shipbuilding. The parts from the production that has already started are destined for the 118-metre project that the shipyard from Lemwerder laid the keel for in summer 2018. The commissioning was attended by Abeking & Rasmussen CEO Hans Schaedla and Norbert Brackmann, the German government's coordinator for the maritime industry. A quarter of the new system, which is to run at A&R in the long term, was financed with funds from the "Innovative shipbuilding secures competitive jobs" subsidy programme. 3D laser welding is intended to reduce material consumption and make yachts lighter. "Thanks to the production quality that can be achieved, we can further improve the quality of our new build orders, shorten production times and remain successful in international competition," says Hans Schaedla.
