The Dutch shipyard Amels, which has recently been known primarily for its semi-custom yachts, wants to grow further. Soon, pure custom formats between 80 and 110 metres in length will also be built in Vlissingen. Manager Rob Luijendijk: "The demand is there."

For many years, Amels focussed on building semi-custom yachts, where the hull, superstructure and technology are predetermined and the owner can almost only have the interior designed to their taste. The advantages for the buyer and the shipyard are obvious: the design concept holds no surprises, the construction time is relatively short, the price can be clearly defined and is also lower than with one-off solutions. Amels currently offers five limited editions between 55 and 83 metres in length; nine yachts are currently under construction.

Despite this success, the Dutch company would like to grow even further and also offer purely custom yachts between 80 and 110 metres in length in the future. Managing Director Rob Luijendijk says: "We have several requests from existing customers for such large yachts. In addition, there are not many shipyards in the world that can build to the highest possible quality in this segment." The infrastructure for the first order is already in place: a 200 metre long dry dock has recently been added to the site.
