The steel displacement vessel came to the shipyard in Urk in 2015 as the "Gisele" project and will be travelling this summer with its German owner and a new length.

The Dutch yacht builders invested around two years of work in the elaborate complete gutting and lengthening of the Explorer, which the owner renamed "Sandalphon" during the launching ceremony.

"This yacht refit was a huge challenge for me and my team," explains shipyard founder Daan Balk. "We had to cut Project 'Gisele' apart twice and lengthen it by three and one metre. Completely gutting a yacht and then rebuilding it from scratch is more complex and technically more demanding than building from scratch."

The elegant exterior and interior styling of the 31-metre-long Explorer format was created by Azure Naval Architects, who also played a key role in the technical planning of the refit.

After intensive sea trials on the North Sea, "Sandalphon" is to be delivered to the owner in June.
