The term motopanfilo was used synonymously in Italian for yachts of around 40 metres in length, which were almost gigantic motor yachts for the time. Benetti owners at the time included Prince Rainier of Monaco and David Bowie, who celebrated lavish parties on board in the 1980s. The shipyard managers worked with designer Francesco Struglia on the exterior design of the new edition. The canopy of the beach club and the clear design language with the bronze-coloured framing of the aft main deck windows, among other things, hark back to times gone by. On the hardtop, which shades part of the sundeck, Struglia installed an observation deck in XS format.
Inside, Lazzarini Pickering Architect designed the architecture in the style of new classicism, with curved ceilings that emphasise the course of the bulkheads. Wood is used on the ceilings and floors, but not on the walls, which are largely made of glass on the main deck. In the five cabins for ten guests, steel blue, a further development of navy blue, provides the accent.
The 230-tonner calculated by P.L.A.N.A. is powered by two MAN gensets with 1029 or 1213 kilowatts of power at 16 and 18 knots respectively. At a speed of ten knots and full tanks, Benetti's Motopanfilo 37M has a range of 3,800 nautical miles.
