A shipyard is reorienting its business. Owner Enrico Gennasio is taking over the operational management of Cantieri di Pisa. Alongside the refit business, new-builds are set to play a greater role once again. To this end, substantial investment is being made.
Cantieri di Pisa is reorganising its management structure. Enrico Gennasio, the shipyard’s sole owner, is also taking on the role of director. The new organisational structure is primarily intended to support three objectives: increasing production figures, consolidating the refit business and implementing new yacht projects.
Cantieri di Pisa was founded in 1945 and is best known for its Akhir range. Over the past few decades, the design of this range and the collaboration with the designer Pierluigi Spadolini have shaped the brand’s image.
A fresh start since 2021
The current developments can be traced back to the takeover by Enrico Gennasio in 2021. Since then, the new owners have invested in skilled workers, retaining the workforce and restarting production. The aim was to re-establish the shipyard as a competitive player in the yacht market. Alongside the refit business, the aim is to regain its former position in the new-build sector.
40-metre-long steel and aluminium project
The custom yacht, measuring 40.14 metres in length, has already been sold to a European owner and is currently under construction. It is the first new build constructed entirely from metal in the history of Cantieri di Pisa. Delivery is scheduled for summer 2027. The yacht will then make a stop at the Cannes Yachting Festival.
Steel is to be used for the hull, whilst the superstructure will be made of aluminium and composite materials. The planned top speed is 15 knots, with a range of around 2,500 nautical miles when travelling at 10 knots.
More staff and new models
Once production gets underway, the workforce is set to be expanded. At the same time, the shipyard intends to develop new models and expand its production facilities and infrastructure to accommodate this. The existing product lines include Super Polaris and Saturno, as well as a revamped Akhir range. In 2025, the shipyard announced a partnership with T. Mariotti for the development and construction of custom yachts over 50 metres in length.
