The new shipyard is scheduled to open in 2019 and will be the second shipyard of the feadship company Royal Van Lent Shipyard, which currently has warehouses in Kaag. The Royal Van Lent management will run both shipyards, which currently employ 450 people, and the new site will create an additional 150 jobs.
"After a long search, we are delighted to have found a site for our new shipyard that is so central and close to the airport," says Jan-Bart Verkuyl. "The increased demand for ever larger and purely custom-built yachts has encouraged us to plan and realise this new location. Together with the Feadship site in Makkum, from 2019 we will have two shipyards that can build yachts well over 100 metres in length."
The foundations for the new shipyard are due to be poured this summer, while the actual hall and dry dock construction will begin next year. The inauguration will take place in 2019.
