2,500 Feadship employees and suppliers were invited. Jan-Bart Verkuyl, CEO of Royal Van Lent, told BOOTE EXCLUSIV shortly before the opening ceremony: "This is probably the most environmentally friendly shipyard in the world." Among other things, he alluded to solar cells on the roof, district heating and consistent LED lighting. The new shipyard halls are a 15-minute drive from Amsterdam Airport and seven kilometres from the city centre. The 425,000 cubic metre site employs 450 people, 150 of whom are new recruits. At the time of the inauguration ceremony, the 88-metre-long Project 816 was in the flooded dry dock, which is 160 metres long, 16 metres wide and 38 metres high. The new Feadship production facility is Royal Van Lent's second after Kaag. Feadship De Vries manufactures in Aalsmeer and Makkum, where a 166 metre long extension is currently being built.
