Sunreef Yachts promises that the 80 Eco will be completely fossil-free. The key is thin-film solar modules developed in-house, which are part of the laminate structure of the mast, boom, deckhouse and bimini roof. They are designed to generate a collective peak output of 36 kilowatts. The 11.53 metre wide sailing catamaran also relies on recuperation via the two propellers. At seven knots under sail, more than 15 kilowatt hours of energy are to be harvested for the drive and on-board power supply. In calm conditions, the two propellers are powered by two 180-kilowatt electric motors.

As with all Sunreef models, the styling of the 80 Eco also comes from the computers of the shipyard's own creative department. "We are taking a big step forward with this truly ground-breaking yacht. The Sunreef 80 Eco is completely autonomous and relies on sun, water and wind," says the French-born shipyard founder and CEO Francis Lapp. Sunreef was able to sign up Nico Rosberg as the brand ambassador for the Eco line. An interview with the former Formula 1 driver can be found in BOOTE EXCLUSIV 2/22.
