The "Sparta" hull was manufactured at Talsma in Franeker, the Netherlands, a specialised shipyard that has been producing steel for Heesen since 2008. Due to the risk of chemical cross-contamination, it is not technically advisable to weld steel and aluminium in the same place.
Winch Design was responsible for the exterior and interior design of the single structure. The calm, confident yet sporty profile of "Sparta" features a raised wheelhouse and elegant, understated lines that combine a powerful bow with a slightly stepped aft deck area including the 6.50 metre long infinity pool.
In view of the negative stem, the designers at Van Oossanen and von Heesen evaluated numerous options for the ideal spray rails. The rails in the bow should keep the deck dry in all conditions. Simulations of the fluid mechanics at the Wolfson Unit in Southampton were of crucial importance. Powered by two MTU diesels (12V4000 M65R), Project "Sparta" reaches a top speed of 16 knots and has a transatlantic range of 4500 nautical miles at a speed of twelve knots. Heesen plans to deliver the 67 metre long and around 1200 gross tonne steel-aluminium format in 2023.
