For "Project Ocean", Wight Shipyard Company (WSC) is sourcing construction materials with a high recycled content from Norwegian aluminium producer Hydro. The hull achieves a maximum width of 6.90 metres in the aft third, and Arksen gives the displacement as 82 tonnes. The hybrid drive from Praxis Automation Technology has not yet been specified, but is expected to accelerate the Arksen 85 to 14 knots. A range of 7,000 miles at nine knots was much more important to Arksen founder Jasper Smith. The British tech entrepreneur attached great importance to a small ecological footprint and relies on heat recovery for heating and ventilation as well as solar modules with a capacity of seven kilowatts.
British studio Design Unlimited is planning to use recycled and sustainable materials for the interior, which is designed for twelve guests. The 26.20 metre-long "Project Ocean" is due to set off on its first test voyages at the beginning of 2022. After that, she will also serve the Arksen Foundation and conduct research. Arksen is encouraging its owners to donate ten per cent of their water time to the organisation's scientists.
