Delivered by Lürssen in 2003 - and built by HDW in Kiel - she travelled with her client Paul Allen for 16 years until he passed away in 2018. Now the 126-metre explorer with a volume of 9932 gross tonnes is for sale. The features of "Octopus" continue to impress: The facilities include a cinema, a gym, a spa, a recording studio, a basketball court and an observation lounge with a glass floor for a view of the underwater world. Tenders and submarines moor in a dock and divers have access to a decompression chamber. Paul Allen resided on "Octopus" on his own deck, which is served by a private lift - the up to 24 other guests use a separate lift. A crew of 63 looks after the well-being of the VIPs. At 12.5 knots, "Octopus" travelled 12,500 nautical miles non-stop with her diesel-electric propulsion.
