After the handover at Lürssen-Kröger in Schacht-Audorf, the 55.50 metre long Bannenberg & Rowell design sailed on the Thames towards London.

"Moon Sand", previously known as project number 13800, moved to a berth downstream of Tower Bridge and the Tower of London. The 10.20 metre wide steel and aluminium displacement vessel was fully designed by Dickie Bannenberg and Simon Rowell, who accompanied the final of the maiden voyage on a RIB. This was the London studio's second exterior collaboration with Lürssen after "Avantage" in 2020. Dickie Bannenberg told BOOTE EXCLUSIV: "'Moon Sand' was inspired by 'Carinthia VI', she is a kind of shortened version." The 71 metres were launched by Lürssen in 1973 and were the biggest project for the young Jon Bannenberg, Dickie Bannenberg's father, at the time.

In a press release, the shipyard, which is currently working on six Gigas, states: "Lürssen is known for building the largest yachts in the world, but is also targeting projects in the 55 to 75 metre range. 'Moon Sand' is a first step towards re-establishing the brand as a serious shipyard for yachts in this size class."

Timelessly beautiful: whether against a modern or neo-Gothic backdrop, the "little" Lürssen (799 GT) always cuts a fine figure. | r.Photo: David ChurchillTimelessly beautiful: whether against a modern or neo-Gothic backdrop, the "little" Lürssen (799 GT) always cuts a fine figure. | r.
