The fire at the Rendsburg shipyard caused millions in damage
After extinguishing the fire, the Lürssen shipyard in Schacht-Audorf is ready to slowly resume operations. The hall that was in flames on Tuesday has been completely destroyed. Fire investigators have begun their work to investigate the cause of the blaze.

After extinguishing the last embers, the fire brigade handed over the shipyard hall to the fire investigators and the Lürssen shipyard. According to the police, temperatures in the hall reached over 1000 degrees Celsius at times during the fire, which is why the building could only be extinguished from the outside. Daniel Passig, spokesman for the Rendsburg-Eckernförde district fire brigade association, reported that new firefighters were brought to the shipyard during the night to replace the previous ones.

Hull of the luxury yacht continues to be monitored

By the next morning, the temperature in the hall had dropped and the extinguishing foam was having an effect. On Wednesday morning, many of the emergency services left. Operations on the shipyard site remained suspended for the time being, but work is to be gradually resumed in certain areas of the shipyard from today. The employees were informed of the latest developments. Further measurements of pollutants and temperatures are to be carried out. The badly damaged hull of the luxury yacht in the burnt-out hall will continue to be monitored. If pockets of embers reappear, the extinguishing work can be continued.

Major Lürssen fire one of the largest operations in Schleswig-Holstein since 2019

The fire at the Lürssen shipyard caused millions in damage. A total of 420 firefighters were deployed, one of the largest operations in Schleswig-Holstein since 2009. The shipyard's first employees have already started clearing up the site. Shipyard operations have been suspended for the time being as the stability of the hall needs to be checked. It is also still too hot to work directly on board the burnt-out yacht. It is doubtful whether any traces of the burnt-out hull can be recovered. The cause of the fire and further details about the yacht in the shipyard have not yet been released. The amount of damage is also still unknown, but is expected to be considerable and in the three-digit million range. As reported by NDR, the results of the investigation are expected in two to four weeks.
