The Lürssen Group from Bremen, one of the global players in mega yacht construction, announced today that it has submitted a notarised offer to take over the traditional Rendsburg shipyard Nobiskrug. Nobiskrug thus appears to have been saved and its continued existence secured.

Nobiskrug was on the verge of closure due to financial difficulties. The takeover by Lürssen not only guarantees the preservation of jobs, but also secures the future of the Rendsburg site. In future, the Nobiskrug shipyard will be operated as part of the neighbouring Lürssen-Kröger shipyard, thus enabling Lürssen to expand its construction capacity for new megayachts as well as for repairs and refit projects.

"We are delighted that the takeover by Lürssen has created a long-term perspective for Rendsburg. The traditional company is an excellent fit for Nobiskrug. In addition, the capacities and locations of the two shipyards complement each other almost perfectly," says insolvency administrator Hendrik Gittermann from Kanzel Reimer.

Dr Martin Bitter, Chairman of IG Metall Rendsburg, is also relieved: "Nobiskrug will be retained as a shipbuilding and industrial site. That is good news in these uncertain times. In Lürssen, there is a buyer with the economic capacity and the necessary expertise to bring the shipyard back into calmer waters."

The shipyard's employees have been offered the opportunity to switch to a transfer company that will ensure the transition from 1 February. Over 95 per cent of the almost 400 employees have already contractually agreed to this procedure.
