The Dutch shipyard was declared insolvent after the shareholder, Mexico's largest steel group AHMSA, no longer met the creditors' demands.
The Mexican judiciary had previously arrested AHMSA majority shareholder Alonso Ancira on Mallorca on bribery charges and had all business accounts frozen. It was a blessing in disguise for the shipyard, which was founded in 1963, as a new investor is already waiting in the wings who, according to Moonen, favours a new start without AHMSA's involvement. Negotiations are ongoing while the liquidator has taken over.
